New Saab 9-3 range enhanced inside out

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Inspired by the Aero X concept car, the new Saab 9-3 range gets new styling and powerful performance parts. It also features petrol and BioPower (E85) engines.

Saab’s BioPower concept works by mixing turbocharging and E85 fuel, which is 85 percent bioethanol and 15 percent petrol, for better engine power and performance. It also helps the environment by reducing fossil CO2 emissions by up to 80 percent. As an outstanding concept, the Saab 9-5 BioPower innovates in the biofuel-run car industry in Ireland. Motorists concern about the environment now has a wider option, for they can choose from the powerful BioPower engines featured in the new Saab 9-3 range.
They can choose from Sport Saloon, Sport Estate and the Convertible. Along with its innovative features and performance parts, the 9-3 boasts new exterior surely to catch multiple gaze. Aside from new bumpers, Saab enhanced every exterior detail such as the doors and handles.

Doug McCoy, General Manager of Saab in Ireland, said “The new Saab 9-3 range, with its styling cues from the award winning Aero X concept car, sets the scene for the future development of Saab. The eagerly awaited 9-3 BioPower will reinforce the leadership position of Saab in flex-fuel vehicles and enhance the ‘responsible performance’ philosophy of the brand. Saab is now the only manufacturer to offer all models with: ‘tri-fuel’ choice of bioethanol, petrol or diesel powered engines; bioethanol eco-friendly renewable fuel engines that give increased power and performance; and five star EuroNCAP safety rating.”

New Saab in Frankfurt

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

The first press day of the Frankfurt auto show was a hit, as the new Saab Turbo X high-technology model made its debut. Before all the performance parts were developed, turbocharging was the concern for Saab. It all began exactly 30 years ago, at exactly the same place, when the first Saab 99 Turbo model was presented to the world media at the 1977 Frankfurt auto show.

At that time Saab was alone in pursuing turbocharging as a reliable and realistic means of extracting more power and efficiency from a production engine.
But today, motorists are attracted by turbocharged engines. ‘Less is more’, this is true in Saab’s case. It is the key to what Saab calls ‘rightsizing’.  That’s because a turbocharged engine is lighter, smaller and more fuel efficient than a non-turbo, ‘naturally-aspirated’ engine capable of producing similar power. Not to mention that a turbocharged vehicle can generate more power from an engine’s exhaust gas flow.

Although some would not believe that ‘getting something for nothing’ is possible with the right engine design, most will probably agree that about 30 percent of the energy released when an engine burns fuel goes down the tube, or the exhaust pipe. This can all be achieved if the right performance parts are in hand.

A turbocharger uses that energy to force more air into the engine. Of course, some more fuel has to be added when extra air is pumped in, but a turbo gives the driver a choice in the matter.

Today, Saab continue to be the forefront of turbocharging technology. To take part in making cars greener without sacrificing the vehicle’s power, Saab BioPower is available. It basically brings together turbocharging and bioethanol (E85) fuel to drastically reduce emissions and still generate more power.
