New GM Performance Parts, the CT525 Circle Track Crate Engine and Ignition Controller Kit

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Car owners who own earlier or even very late models can still be hip and renowned through the Performance Parts and features added to par with the vehicles produced nowadays.

When it comes to providing a maximum power for the engine, the GM Performance Parts (GMPP) is the good source. It has the latest CT525 small-block V-8 that will be out in the market early on 2008.

The production of CT525 was based on the new LS3 engine made from aluminum. To be tagged as one of the hottest Performance Parts. and show off a competitive factor, GM engineered the component with utmost attention, including significant parts that aid in the function of the engine. These consist of a carburetor intake manifold, the ASA-spec camshaft and a circle track-spec steel oil pan. The new CT525 can produce 525 horsepower together with the 750-cfm four-barrel carburetor. It likewise achieves its highest speed of 6,700 rpm.

The single-plane designed carbureted intake manifold is exclusively designed for LS3’s rectangular-port cylinder heads. It effectively delivers better rpm airflow to these cylinder spots. When used with the CT525, GM suggests a 750-cfm HP-series carburetor.

In addition to the parts, a separate ignition controller kit was offered by GMPP to make the engine start its operation.

The CT525 and ignition controller kit have the numbers 19171821 and 19171130 respectively.

As stated by Lisa Reffett, the marketing manager of GM Performance Parts, “The introduction of the CT525 demonstrates GM Performance Parts’ deepening commitment to the racing world. It broadens our lineup of CT racing engines and gives those at the top rung of the sportsman classes unparalleled performance, reliability and value.”

The GM Performance Parts Division Meeting

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

In line with the 305 Sprint Car competition, Karl Chevrolet and its GM Performance Parts division will host a meeting on the 27th of November to deliberate on whether or not a GM Performance Parts Crate Engine must be used. All of GM Performance Parts’ drivers, sanctioning organizations, clubs, and car owners are tasked to attend.

“Since the original press release announcing this meeting I have attended meetings and received phone calls and e-mails from persons interested in listening to our proposal,” GM Performance Parts Representative Chuck Stowe said in a statement. “I expect representatives from several tracks and racing organizations as well as interested individuals to attend, including; the Midwest 305 Sprint Cars, Midwest Sprint Warriors, Mid American 305 Sprints, Ralph Capitani and John McCoy from Knoxville Raceway and Tom Schmeh from the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. All interested parties are invited to attend this meeting.”

The GM Performance Parts Crate Engine is basically a “pan race engine” that is incorporated in a fast burn 350/400 racing engine. Its materials include a bulletproof bottom end that is “anchored by a forged steel crankshaft and hypereutectic pistons”. This engine is said to be more efficient in combusting the air-fuel mixture, which means more power. Since team GM definitely aims for the gold in the 305 Sprint Car competition, the Crate Engine is considered.

Given all these preparations that GM is going through, we must all wait and see what they can offer for the competition.

Warren Johnson prepares to race

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Preparation is the key to success, especially in the motorsport industry. All the racers and their respective teams can do is to prepare themselves and their vehicles by equipping them with the right performance-enhancing parts. This is just what legendary racer Warren Johnson did in his GM Performance Parts GTO to boost performance.

“Our primary goal is to get our GM Performance Parts GTO back into a performance window where we can be consistently competitive,” said Johnson. “Whereas recently we have shown ourselves to occasionally be fast, we head into Richmond looking to regain the consistent performance we had shown earlier this year, which sounds like a simple task, but in reality, is a lot of work.”

“You have to keep in mind that the tuning dynamics in any race car are in a constant state of flux. Whether you develop additional horsepower, work on a new chassis concept or simply change the shock rate or gear ratios, you have to re-evaluate the performance equation to make sure it works the way you want it to.”

“In the time since the last race, we went over the race car and uncovered a few issues that had been negatively affecting the tune-up for quite some time. We’ve addressed them, and had a one-day test to make sure everything is now working properly. Although we seem to have regained the handle, we won’t really know until after the first qualifying session on Friday.”

Although a race has no guarantees, the team didn’t know what to expect in the track at Virginia Motorsports Park. All they can do now is wait and see.

“They’ve ground the track since last year, when it was relatively bumpy, presenting us with an as-yet unknown amount of traction,” said Johnson. “Another variable which we cannot plan for are the atmospheric conditions, which could be anywhere from to extremely good to very poor. Therefore, we will just have to see what we have when we get there, and adapt according to what we find. We’ve certainly had our share of success in Richmond in the past, and I couldn’t think of any better place or time to get our GM Performance Parts GTO back on the winning track than at VMP this weekend.”

GM aims high in SCCA Race

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

In this year’s 44th Annual Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Club Racing National Championship Runoffs, GM will be aiming to make it 52 straight years of winning at least one SCCA National Championship.

It all started in 1956, when Dr. Richard Thompson gave GM its first SCCA National Championship win. He was then driving a 265 cu. in. V8 Chevrolet Corvette. GM-powered cars have consistently won at least one National Championship every year since then. This is an exceptional feat, considering that no other manufacturer has done it and could match it.

“For performance vehicles to have a credible place in our customers’ driveways, they must perform on the race track,” said GM Performance Division executive John Heinricy. “We’ve worked very hard in recent years to get some of GM’s most capable performance models classed to compete in SCCA, so our success is no accident.”

“To continue this winning tradition, all Touring and Showroom Stock classes are represented with at least one current model GM vehicle for 2007, and many of the classes feature models only recently out of production, making parts and service readily available.”

Such achievement was done together with the GM Performance Division (GMPD), the quality GM performance parts and great drivers. Drivers can choose from the wide range of GM brand vehicles in every Touring and Showroom Stock class, including the Chevrolet Corvette, Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird in Touring 1 (T1); Pontiac Solstice GXP, Pontiac GTO, Pontiac Firebird, Cadillac CTS-V and Chevy Camaro in Touring 2 (T2); Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged, Saturn ION Red Line and Pontiac G6 GTP in Touring 3 (T3); Pontiac Solstice, Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird in Showroom Stock B (SSB); and the naturally-aspirated Chevy Cobalt SS and Pontiac Sunfire GT in Showroom Stock C (SSC).

This week, sixty-three teams will be racing GM branded vehicles in six classes. American Sedan (AS) will be included, along with the Touring and Showroom Stock classes.

First Annual Bob Milner Memorial 125 Rescheduled

Friday, September 7th, 2007

The 1st Annual Bob Miller Memorial 125 presented by Bailey’s Carpet One at the Grundy County (IL) Speedway, located West of Chicago in Morris, Illinois has been rescheduled, the ASA Late Model Series Northern Division presented by GM performance parts recently announced.

On September 9, the 1st Annual Bob Milner Memorial 125 and the ASALMS Northern Division will race on the fast 0.333 Mile Semi-Banked Paved Oval in Morris, Illinois.

With the rescheduled date and conflicting schedules, the Mid-American Stock Car Series and the Central States Super Cup Series will not be able to return. Instead, the INEX Legends and Bandoleros as well as the Grundy County Street Stocks will fill in to provide support for what will now be the Eighth Race of the 2007 season for the ASALMS Northern Division.

The revised Entry Form for the 1st Annual Bob Milner Memorial 125 presented by Bailey’s Carpet One is available and due at the ASALMS Home Offices in Lexington, Michigan.

The weekend will still be devoted to paying tribute to Bob Milner, the former ASALMS Official Photographer who died last year due to heart attack. Milner was a dear friend to the entire racing community.

All Eyes on Warren Johnson

Warren Johnson of GM Performance Parts

All eyes are hot to spot the GM Performance Parts GTO knight Warren Johnson for the Mac Tools US Nationals in Indianapolis. “The Professor of Pro Stock” has greatly improved during the qualifying and the elimination rounds in the previous races. Watching the distinctive yellow and blue hot rod, only a few might realize the tremendous effort and skill required by the six-time champion simply to get it down the track. Johnson hopes to have an easy and smooth race over the competition.

Although we’ve been somewhat successful over the last few races, we believe we have yet to extract the maximum performance from our GM Performance Parts GTO, simply because it hasn’t been going straight,” stated Johnson. “We’ve done as much due diligence as we can in trying to correct the problem, trying to get the right balance in the car. We feel that we’re right on the edge, and now it’s just a matter of getting it over the hump. This weekend’s race is a big one in more ways than one, so before heading to Indianapolis, we’ll spend two days testing in St. Louis, gathering information and hopefully getting a firm handle on this race car. This will be our first true test session since May, and we want to make sure we quite literally have the kinks out of it.”

Should Johnson and his Terry Adams-led crew get their race car fully up to speed, it could not come at a more opportune time, as the POWERade Drag Racing season is reaching a critical point. Not only is this weekend’s race the biggest in all of drag racing, and one every competitor wants on his or her racing resume, but it also marks the start of the NHRA’s second season, the Countdown to Four. With the contenders in all four professional categories narrowed down to eight and separated by only 80 points, every round takes on championship implications. Steeled by the experience of six U.S. Nationals wins and half-dozen Pro Stock championships, WJ brings a typically pragmatic attitude to O’Reilly Raceway Park on what promises to be a pressure-packed weekend.

Over the years, we’ve done relatively well in Indianapolis, including winning a few,” said Johnson in an interview. “It’s a race that everyone gears up for. Whether you call it our Daytona 500 or Indy 500, it comes down to the fact that the U.S. Nationals are the highlight of the drag racing season, the premiere event that every competitor wants to win. As I’ve often said, you may win a championship, but if you never win Indy, your resume is a little hollow. Coming into this race, we’re also happy to be part of the Countdown to Four. Although we’re not seeded as high as we would have liked, the primary goal was simply to make it in, and we’ve done that. After all, you can’t launch a strike without a spot from which to start your attack. However, with only four races before the next cut down, there is even less room for error, so this GM Performance Parts Pontiac crew has to get to work.”

Corvette Z06 Performance Packages

Friday, August 17th, 2007

A Corvette Z06 can be altered to perform better with a performance parts package with the Houston Horsepower Engineering (HPE).

This sports car geared with a 7.0-liter engine and 470 lb-ft of torque is guaranteed with up to 505 horsepower with the new HPE package. Thanks to a variety of performance driven parts like the forged-steel crankshaft, titanium connection rods, and six-bolt main caps, make this Corvette even a notch higher in terms of its axle-mangling output.

The HPE technology was established by Chuck Anders last 2003. The 13,000-square-foot facility has been pumping out some of the industry’s wildest GM-powered hot rods ever since. In fact, the shop currently lays claim to the fastest LT1 F-body and fastest stock-block LS1 in the country.

“The LS7 is a fantastic engine with excellent street manners, but substantial power gains can be made by optimizing the tuning, camshaft, and exhaust system,” said Anders. “Our Stinger package offerings for the Z06 Corvette can add from 30 to well over 200 rear-wheel horsepower to a car and are designed to bring out the true personality of the LS7.

Aside from the transmission power, the tuning package for the ZO6 Corvette can improve its exhaust system and make emissions cleaner. Other performance parts that support the exhaust of the Corvette is a set of American Racing 1 7/8-inch headers and a three-inch mid-pipe with high-flow catalytic converters. These parts will further increase the exhaust duration and will help make the engine rev up even better.

“Our Stinger Tuning package optimizes the stock camshaft and exhaust, while the Stage II and III Stinger Packages use custom cams and system-matched performance parts to significantly increase engine power,” said Anders.

The upgraded Chevrolet Camaro

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

The hybrid system of the General Motors Corporation (GMC) parts combined with the already beefed up parts of Chevrolet will make the famous Transformers movie-car Camaro into an all-powerful car for this century.

With the fusion of the two automakers, the upgraded battery-run Chevrolet Camaro is guaranteed to achieve 40 mpg on the highway and rake up to 30 mpg in the city. With top-caliber performance parts, this fuel economy hybrid carwith a beefed up V8 engine is capable of a 0 to 60 mph speed-up.

The GMC parts that will be manufactured for in this new and improved Chevrolet Camaro could really take the hybrid car technology up a notch.

The Camaro is Chevrolet and GM’s halo car,” said Joe Phillippi, principal of AutoTrends Consulting, in Short Hills, N.J. ”It projects an image that reflects on the whole corporation. To offer all the performance aspects of a classic Camaro and still be environmentally friendly which is a real plus from an image point of view.”

Some GMC vehicles such as the GMC Yukon will be installed with the environment-friendly hybrid technology and will be released in the market this September. The anticipated release of the gasoline-electric hybrid Chevrolet Camaro, however, will still be on the first quarter of 2009.

Every automaker is going to have to have a hybrid version of almost every model they build,” said Tony Swan, senior editor at Car and Driver magazine. “It is a smart thing to do for marketing.”

Germany established automakers such as BMW and Mercedes Benz are also interested in the hybrid technology, which promotes better fuel economy. These companies are helping GMC in further developing this technology by shelling out money and engineering talents.
