Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

For the drivers who want the best rides, the SEMA show may be the event to visit for the newest performance rides. Bilstein performance parts graced this year’s SEMA show by featuring the PSS10 system, which has a new Electronic Ridecontrol system.

Bilstein performance partsThis system is similar to Porsche’s PASM system, except for the lack of integration between the ECU that is responsible for gathering inputs from the throttle position sensor, traction control and steering angle sensor. Changing the strut’s firmness and going from “comfort” to “sport” can be easily done with this new system by simply pushing the blue backlit button mounted on the dashboard.

50-percent stiffer, the “comfort” is available for the BMW E46, E90 and E60, and the Mercedes E-Class (W211).

Autoblog.com reports, “Bilstein plans to develop the system for a number of other high-end applications, specifically the entire Porsche range, from the Boxster to the 996 and 997 911s.”

Better shocks mean better performance

An excellent Mazda MX-5 offer great performance, but for other car enthusiasts there is always room for improvement. One website discusses this through one Mazda MX-5 owner as he enhances the vehicle’s handling and style.

Starting simply, he got a performance package, which includes a limited-slip differential, Directional Stability Control and a sport suspension with stiffer Bilstein shock absorbers.

He also discussed how a spring kit reduces ride height by 34 millimeters while increasing the spring rates by 26 percent. On the other hand a cold air intake lowers engine temperature by bringing cold air in from outside the engine compartment.

This did not become an easy task for the car enthusiast but he went ahead and did it to improve the drive quality of the Mazda. Overall, the job he did was pretty good for a non-professional. Steering and handling improved. The vehicle also benefit from the suspension upgrade.

The exterior styling of the third generation of the Mazda MX-5 resembles the original design while adopting a clean, more muscular profile and some design elements to reinforce the family ties with the Mazda RX-8. Unlike the update from NA to NB, which was mostly a nose/tail/interior change; the NC shares no components with the NB, except for the side-panel turning-lights on European-spec models.

The Mazda MX-5 has a new 16-valve, 2.0-litre MZR I4 engine that can produce 170 hp and a torque of 140 ft. The engine can be paired with either a 5-speed or a 6-speed manual transmission.

Mazda MX-5’s suspension made even better with Bilstein shocks

A vehicle, especially a sports car, cannot stand alone with just the fast and the furious wonders. If a car is brutally fast, it has to be geared with an equally powerful suspension system. This six-speed Mazda MX-5 has been geared with a performance parts to beef up the suspension – the Bilstein shock absorbers.

For race cars such as the Mazda MX-5, a high-performing suspension is a must. Just imagine what the combination of the sky-rocketing speed and off-road terrain can do to a vehicle. With the car on full throttle, the driver may lose control over it and unfortunate accidents may occur. Performance parts like the stiffer Bilstein shock absorbers, which were installed at the front portion of the four-wheel drive, boost the suspension of the Mazda MX-5. Aside from easier maneuvering or directional stability control was also made easier with these performance parts.

Optimum performance will sure be achieved by the Mazda MX-5 after being geared with these quality performance parts.
